We’re launching an independent, community-powered newsroom for Delaware County

Delaware County is full of energy, pride and possibility. From thriving schools and neighborhoods to innovative businesses and a strong sense of community, there’s a lot to celebrate as our county grows.

Rapid growth also needs smart questions: How do we manage housing and infrastructure? Keep our schools strong? Ensure progress works for everyone who calls Delaware home?

That’s where Delaware Source comes in.

Help us make Delaware Source great (and win $100!)

We want to know what you care about — the stuff you love about Delaware, what keeps you up at night, or that one nagging question which makes you say, “I wish someone would write about that!”

No boring questions. Let’s get to know each other.

🎉 Everyone who completes our short survey will be registered to win one of ten $100 gift cards.

The FAQ

Why should I care about local news in Delaware?

In a time when trust in the news media is at an all-time low, having a professional, nonpartisan news outlet focused on issues in your community is important.

Strong local news reporting has ripple effects far beyond the page. It shines a light on how city government makes decisions, how tax dollars are spent and how elected officials serve the people who put them in office. It elevates pressing community issues like affordable housing, access to child care, workforce development and public safety. It also helps celebrate the everyday wins — from high school sports to small business milestones — that build community pride.

When a newsroom is present and engaged, the whole community benefits. Residents are more informed, leaders are more accountable and people feel more connected to the place they call home.

What is Source Media Properties?

For over a decade, Source Media Properties has provided locally-owned, community-focused journalism. Our flagship, Richland Source, was founded in Mansfield in 2013 and has grown to cover neighboring Ashland and Knox counties. Our team of skilled reporters provides essential news which helps people see hope, feel powerful, and take action.

We are among the best in the nation at reader and community-driven news events. We believe in solutions-oriented journalism, which looks not only at problems, but seeks to find effective responses which are adaptable to the needs of the communities we serve.

Most importantly, we actively listen to our communities to ensure our reporting truly reflects their needs and interests.

When will you launch in Delaware?

Our target is early 2026, but work has already begun and will accelerate as we move toward launch. We’ll keep you posted. Be sure to join our email list so we can communicate with you.

How is this funded?

This effort is funded by you. Whether as a member or a sponsor, Delaware Source will be supported primarily by the people who love it. If you’re excited about local news in Delaware, join our email list to receive more info about how you can support us.

Who will staff the Delaware operation?

Our Delaware newsroom will be led by Brittany Schock, a longtime veteran of the Source and a stellar journalist to boot. Joining Brittany are two of our most energetic and talented reporters, Jack Slemenda and Taylor Henninger. All three will be moving to the Delaware area to become proper neighbors in this community. Click here to learn more about them.

Back-office support and roles like product, audience, and marketing will operate out of headquarters in Mansfield, as they do now.

Will readers in Delaware have to pay to read the news?

Everyone will have access to a limited number of articles per month at no charge. Our most frequent readers will have the option to pay a modest membership fee for unlimited access to our reporting.

Will you have a physical newspaper?

We’re a digital-first organization, so we will not launch with a physical paper. We’ll never say never, but for now, you’ll find our reporting on delawaresource.com and a brand-new mobile app — click here to download!

I have questions, can I talk to a real person?

Absolutely.

The fastest way to reach us is via email at hello@delawaresource.com. This email is monitored and a staff member will get right back to you.

You can also reach us by phone at 419-610-2100. You’ll need to leave a message. A staff member will call you back.
